📜 Cultural Background
Mask‑making in Ghana goes back centuries among Akan, Ewe and Dagbani peoples, where carved faces invoke ancestral spirits during festivals, funerals and judicial “purification” rites. Performers wear or display elongated masks while drumming and dancing, believing the sweeping nose ­‑ a path between worlds – guides blessings to the village. Use of bright red (life‑force), black (ancestral power) and gold (prosperity) remains common.
