📜 Esso Tiger History:
“Put a Tiger in Your Tank” debuted in 1959 when adman Emery Smith pitched the tiger as a symbol of strength and pep for Esso’s gasoline. The stripey mascot bounded across print ads, jingles and TV spots through the ’60s and was even revived in the ’90s for charity tie-ins. Though he never got a personal name beyond “Esso Tiger,” he became one of petroliana’s most beloved icons—and still pops up on retro merch today.
