💜This vibrant salt & pepper shaker set showcases a smiling Alaska Native woman in her traditional kuspuk—an overshirt first worn by Yup’ik and Athabascan peoples —and surrounded by wildflowers under the midnight sun.
Her vivid kuspuk (the Yup’ik word for “pocket” blouse) bursts with color: a sky-blue bodice, rosy-pink trim, and skirt bands of polar-bear and heart motifs. In Yup’ik art, bears embody strength and hearts symbolize community love, while floral columns beside her recall the fleeting summer blooms of the tundra.
The kuspuk itself dates back centuries as a functional parka-style dress, worn by Yup’ik and Athabascan peoples to store tools or catch flowers, and today is prized for its vibrant patterns and cultural pride.
🐇 She is carrying a cute white rabbit, highlighting both nurturing and resourcefulness— rabbits, or more specifically hares (like the snowshoe hare and Arctic hare), play a significant role as food, a means of survival, and in traditional stories and beliefs.
