đ A Tiny Taste of Italian Glass History
Back in the swinging â60s and â70s, Tuscan glass houses around Empoli were turning out richly colored piecesâamethyst, ruby, olive, and this warm amberâthen gilding them with metallic leaf and stripes for a luxe finish.
While this vase bears no official sticker, its conical ârocketâ silhouette, translucent brown body, and alternating almost silver and gold bands perfectly match the so-called âgold-stripeâ decanters made by the Vetrerie di Empoli ateliers in Tuscany. Empoli wasnât one single factory but a cluster of family-run furnaces around the town of Empoli, all celebrated for hand-blown artistry and foil-fired decorations.
