Clippers were the speed demons of the midâ19th centuryâsleek, threeâmasted merchant vessels built for recordâbreaking runs between England, China, Australia and beyond. Their sharp bows and raked masts made them the Ferrari of the sea, carrying tea, spices, wool and dreams across the globe.
đ Adderley Fine Bone China England has a legacy as rich as the ocean depths. William Alsager Adderley launched his own pottery in StokeâonâTrent in 1874 at Daisy Bank, later becoming W.âŻA.âŻAdderley &âŻCo. and finally Adderleys Ltd. By the 1920sââ30s, their elegant china was the toast of Britain. Though wartime saw a pause, production resumed in 1945, and the âRoyal Adderleyâ name sailed on until the 1960sâthis plate is a true survivor of that proud lineage.
đ Measuring a commanding 10âŻÂźâŻinches (26âŻcm) across, with a depth of â
âŻinch (1.5âŻcm) and weighing in at 609âŻg, it sits beautifully on any mantle or gallery wall.
âď¸ In good vintage condition for its 80âŻyears: no chips or crazing. You will see a faint yellow patina in spots, a few small dots at the back of the plate (probably from hanging on the wall). Light discoloration in certain parts of the gold filigree, and a few surface scratches on the shipâcharacter marks of its storied past. A tiny hairline (superficial crack) stands on the back, but itâs not structural. Please check the photos.
This is strictly a display pieceâperfect for boneâchina aficionados or anyone craving a slice of maritime romance.
