Vintage Hand-Blown Art Glass Vase — Yellow with Chocolate Swirls | Teardrop Form, Rolled Rim | c. late 20th century

This hand-blown art glass vase glows a bright, translucent lemon-yellow wrapped with flowing chocolate-brown ribbons that spiral around the body.
The form is a soft teardrop with a chunky rolled rim that gives it a satisfyingly modern, studio-glass feel. (Rolled-top rims like this are a hallmark detail on many contemporary hand-blown vases.)

Up close, you’ll notice the charming hallmarks of true hand-blown glass—tiny seed bubbles, faint waves in the wall, and subtle irregularities where the glass was worked hot.
These are signs of craftsmanship, not flaws.
A small, finished pontil trace on the base is typical of free-blown pieces (a pontil is the rod used to hold the work as it’s shaped; many hand-blown objects show a remnant where it detached).
📜 The fluid ribbon decoration (often called “trailing” or “threading”) has been used for centuries to lay decorative threads of contrasting molten glass over a vessel—exactly the swooping stripes you see here.
Given the rolled rim, free-blown body, and bold two-tone palette, this vase most likely dates to the late 20th century (1980s–1990s), when the Studio Glass movement—sparked by the 1962 Toledo workshops—had matured and studio artisans across North America and Europe were producing vibrant, sculptural household pieces.
