Carved from genuine monkey pod wood harvested in the Philippines, its warm honeyâbrown grain shows why tropical monkey pod became a staple of 1970s serveware.
The board tapers elegantly toward the bottom and has an integrated handle for easy carrying.
đ„Ș Two recessed wells on either side are perfect for olives, nuts or bread, while a central groove with a hidden magnet cradles the original Japanese stainlessâsteel cheese knife.
đ· A square ceramic tile inset above the compartments features a whimsical still life of a glass of red wine balanced on a fish with purple grapes, skewered tomatoes, cheese cubes and onions, lending a splash of colour and conversationâpiece appeal.
The underside retains the original gold foil sticker that reads âGenuine Philippine Giftcraft Monkey Pod.â
đ History & maker: Giftcraft is a Canadian homeâdecor company established in the midâ1940s. For over 75Â years it has supplied trendâsetting lifestyle products across North America. In the 1960s and 70s, Giftcraft imported handâcarved monkey pod pieces like this tray from Philippine artisans, making them popular accessories for cocktail parties and fondue nights. Monkey pod wood (also called Albizia saman) is prized for its durability and striking grain patterns, and it became synonymous with midâcentury modern entertaining.

âïž Very good vintage condition. The ceramic tile has a faint hairline crack that doesnât affect use, and there are a few small nicks on the wood bottom edge (see photos). No crazing or major damage; the surface is smooth and the magnet still holds the knife securely. Overall the tray appears barely used and is ready to shine at your next gathering.
Use it to serve cheeses, charcuterie or sushi, or display it in your retro bar or kitchen.
