This pair of Italian studio pottery mini vases brings a lively swirl of teal, turquoise, cobalt, and wine-berry glazes to any corner of your home.
Each vase is a hand-thrown amphora form with twin scroll handles and a flared trumpet rim—small in stature, big on personality.
📐 Dimensions (each): about 4 in tall × 2⅝ in wide (10.2 cm × 6.7 cm).
Both bases are hand-marked ITALY 2923 (pattern/shape number typical of Italian export studio work from the mid-century era).
What makes them special is the drip-glaze finish, those flowing, marbled rivulets where color pools and breaks over the shoulder and foot.
The potter wheel-threw the bodies, applied the handles by hand, then layered fluid oxblood-berry, sea-blue, and moss-green enamels over a glossy white ground; firing lets the glazes run and mingle, creating that volcanic “lava” speckle around the foot. 🤎
📜 Italian workshops (Deruta, Vietri sul Mare, Tuscany & Emilia-Romagna studios among others) produced lively tourist-market ceramics in the 1950s–1970s, often simply marked Italy plus a model number. Multicolor drip and lava glazes were a huge look of the period, paralleling West German “fat lava” while retaining a distinctly Mediterranean palette and amphora silhouettes.
✔️ Condition: excellent vintage shape—no chips, cracks, or crazing; just the gentle surface speckles and kiln pinpoints you expect from hand-glazed pottery. Bright color, high gloss, and sturdy little handles.
