This solid-brass round box has the satisfying weight and glow collectors love, and itâs covered in hand-engraved, color-filled geometric motifsâtiny diamonds, cross-stitches, and linear hatches dancing around the form.
The domed lid echoes the pattern and is topped with a simple brass lid.
It looks luxe on a shelf, but itâs wonderfully practical for jewelry, keepsakes, keys, tea sachetsâwhatever needs a beautiful landing spot.

đ¤ The surface has been engraved (you can feel the cuts) and then filled with colored enamel in reds, berry-pink, light teal, black, and white tones before polishingâan Indian enameling approach often described as meenakari: patterns are incised and packed with vitreous color thatâs fired and finished to a gloss.
đ Northern Indiaâespecially Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, nicknamed Peetal Nagri (âbrass cityâ)âhas been a hub for engraved and enameled brass since the 19th century, supplying both local and export markets. Workshops there produced boxes and bowls like this through the mid- to late-20th century, combining machine-spun bodies with hand-engraving and enamel infill. If youâve heard âBenares wareâ used for Indian brass, thatâs a historic trade name tied to North Indian centers that popularized carved and enameled brass for export.

Very good vintage shape overall: Expect normal age patina inside and out (darker toning, scattered spots and micro-scratches) that give antique brass its depth and character. Lid seats nicely. Normal wear on enamel.
