They are a beautiful mismatch-style set, featuring one shaker and one open cellar (or "pepper pot") with its own tiny spoon.
This set is a feast for the eyes!
💙 The body of each shaker has a lovely scalloped, lobed shape.
They feature brilliant cobalt blue panels alternating with creamy white panels.
Each white panel is decorated with delicate, hand-painted flowers in shades of purple and orange-brown, with fine gold gilt borders and speckles that catch the light beautifully.
💙 What makes this set special are the lids:
--- The Salt Shaker: This is the shaker with the perforated top. You can gently shake your salt from here. The metal lid is removable for easy refilling.
--- The Pepper Pot: This piece has a wonderful hinged metal lid. You just lift the top to access the contents. There's a perfect little slot for the included spoon to rest, making it easy to delicately spoon your pepper.
📜 Imari influence. That stunning combination of deep cobalt blue, floral motifs, and rich gold is a hallmark of "Japonisme," a style where European artisans were heavily inspired by Japanese designs like Imari porcelain. While this set is unmarked, its style, the scalloped porcelain body, and the metalwork are all characteristic of the late Victorian to Edwardian eras, likely dating them to around 1890-1920. They were most likely made in Germany, Bohemia, or England.
The tiny spoon also has a story! It is marked "NEVADA SILVER D&A". "D&A" stands for Daniel & Arter, a prolific silver-plating company from Birmingham, England, active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. "Nevada Silver" was one of their popular trade names for a type of nickel silver alloy, prized for its durability. This spoon is likely original to the set and is a fantastic piece of history itself!

✔️ This set is in good vintage condition, especially for being over 100 years old:
-- Shakers: No chips, cracks, or crazing on the porcelain. The interiors are clean and safe to use. The hand-painting and gold are still vibrant.
-- Metal Lids: The metal has a beautiful, discoloration and tarnished patina that comes with age. The hinged lid on the pepper pot works perfectly.
-- Salt Shaker Lid: Please note, the decorative finial (top detail) is missing from the center of the salt shaker lid. This leaves the center hole larger than the others (see photos). You'll just need a gentle hand when shaking so the salt doesn't come out too fast!
-- Spoon: The spoon has a lovely natural patina consistent with its age.
This set is perfect for adding a touch of antique elegance to your dining table, for use in your kitchen, or as a gorgeous display piece in a china cabinet.
