1974 Gorham Norman Rockwell Fishing Figurine | Saturday Evening Post Cover

$70.20

A cozy slice of Americana for your shelf.

🐟 This vintage porcelain figurine recreates Norman Rockwell’s beloved Saturday Evening Post cover of a snoozing fisherman and his faithful pup, dozing under a shady umbrella while the lines politely wait.

It’s part of Gorham’s 1970s “Gift World of Gorham” porcelain line that brought Rockwell’s scenes into three-dimensions—beautifully hand-painted and wonderfully nostalgic.

📜 Norman Rockwell painted 323 covers for The Saturday Evening Post between 1916 and 1963, shaping the magazine’s warm, narrative look at everyday American life. The sleepy-angler scene appeared on the July 19, 1930 issue—often titled Gone Fishing or Golden Days—and shows an old man nodding off in a skiff while his dog keeps watch.

Founded in the 19th century and hugely popular through the mid-20th, the Post mixed short fiction, general-interest journalism, humor, and iconic cover art. Rockwell’s storytelling images became synonymous with the magazine’s optimistic, slice-of-life tone—exactly why his fishing scene made such a perfect summer cover.

📜 About Gorham’s figurines
Gorham—best known as a premier American silver brand founded in Providence in 1831—expanded into giftware and licensed artwork in the 20th century. In the mid-1970s the company produced Saturday Evening Post / Rockwell figurines in porcelain, marketed as “From the Gift World of Gorham,” with production running roughly 1974–1985 (pieces made in Taiwan or Japan).

📐 Size & weight
Approx. 6 in tall × 8 in deep × 5 in wide (about 15.2 × 20.3 × 12.7 cm).
Weight ≈ 670 g (about 1.5 lb).

✔️ Excellent vintage condition: no chips, cracks, or repairs. All three poles are present with the line and hook. Includes original box and foam (box shows expected shelf wear with tears/discoloration but protects the figurine well). Clean, display-ready—please see photos.

🤍 Underside is printed “This figurine inspired by Norman Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post cover… ©1974 S.E.P.” and carries the Gorham giftware label with Made in Taiwan—a typical marking for this line.

🤍 Why collectors love it
Rockwell’s sleepy fisherman is peak summer nostalgia.
Gorham’s porcelain translation captures the folded umbrella canopy, the green tackle box, and that mischievous dog peering over the transom—details that make this a perfect gift for fishing lovers, Rockwell fans, or anyone who decorates with vintage Americana.
