🐦 A little piece of nature, captured in beautiful English fine bone china!
This charming vintage Royal Grafton mug is part of the North American Birds collection, featuring a wonderfully detailed illustration of a small grey-brown songbird perched among delicate yellow blossoms and fresh green foliage.
I especially love the contrast between the bird's soft colours and the cheerful yellow flowers. The bird's patterned wings, long tail feathers, and delicate features give the illustration an almost storybook quality.
The mug itself is just as lovely as the artwork. Made in England from fine bone china, it features a gently flared shape, a subtly scalloped base, an elegant curved handle, and delicate gold accents along the rim and handle.
With its 200 mL capacity, it is a lovely little cup for tea or coffee, but it would also be wonderful displayed on an open kitchen shelf, in a china cabinet, or as part of a cottagecore-inspired collection.

📜 A little history
Royal Grafton has roots in Staffordshire's celebrated pottery industry in England.
The story began with Alfred Bailey Jones, who established his pottery business in 1876 and built the Grafton Works in Longton in 1900.
Over the following decades, Grafton became known for its fine bone china tableware, decorative pieces, and beautifully detailed patterns. The Royal Grafton name continued through several changes of ownership, preserving a connection to the long tradition of English china manufacturing.
This particular mug bears the gold Royal Grafton crown backstamp, together with the words "North American Birds," "Fine Bone China," and "Made in England."
The bird illustrated on this mug resembles a Northern Mockingbird.
🙂 A little bird trivia!
Northern Mockingbirds are extraordinary singers, famous for imitating the songs of other birds and even sounds from their surroundings.
A male mockingbird can learn around 200 different songs during its lifetime! Some are such enthusiastic performers that they continue singing well into the night.
Whether or not our little feathered friend is a mockingbird, it certainly brings a wonderful touch of nature to this English china piece.

✔️ Condition
Good vintage condition, showing signs of age and previous use.
The gold trim around the upper rim shows noticeable wear, including areas where the gilding has rubbed away. The bird decoration also shows some discolouration, along with minor surface marks and light signs of use.
No cracks, chips or crazing.
Please examine all photographs carefully, especially the close-ups of the gold rim and decoration, as they form an important part of the condition description.
Because of the delicate gold detailing, I recommend gentle hand washing only. Not recommended for microwave or dishwasher use.
